July 2, 1776: Congress approves resolution for independence.
July 4, 1776: Congress unamimously ratifies the Delcaration of Independence, signed by John Hancock.

The History
April 19, 1775 - now celebrated as Patriots' Day - was the beginning of the Revolutionary War. That momentous day began with Paul Revere’s midnight ride, was ignited by British troops killing 8 and wounding 10 at Lexington (“Don’t fire unless fired upon...but if they mean to have war, let it begin here”), and exploded at Concord’s North Bridge where Americans finally returned fire with the “Shot heard ‘round the world”.

Stand on Principle
"Always stand on principle, even when you stand alone."
Advancement of Knowledge
"The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only true guardian of Liberty."

Our Revolution
"Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words, "We The People". - Ronald Reagan, born 2/6/1911
Goal of America
"...may I say in conclusion that our goal is freedom and I believe that we're going to get there. It's going to be more difficult from here on in but I believe we're going to get there because however much she strays away from it, the goal of America is freedom and our destiny is tied up with the destiny of America. Before the Pilgrim fathers landed at Plymouth we were here. Before Jefferson etched across the pages of history the majestic words of the Declaration of Independence we were here. Before the beautiful words of the Star Spangled Banner were written we were here..."
- from Speech given at Grosse Pointe High School, March 14, 1968
