Vineyard

A lot has been happening over the past several weeks:

  • The cover crop planted last Fall has - thanks to the record early rains - turned into a super bloom of yellow, purple, white
  • Herd of 15 now 16 sheeparrived to the Zinfandel block to mow and, um, fertilize.  Sustainable farming initiative.  A new baby was born on March 3; thanks to all who voted in our Instagram poll to name her - ‘Libby’ (short for Liberty) was the winner
  • Entire vineyard was pruned and tied
  • Mowing has begun as well as wire and post work
  • Removed several acres of 26 y.o. Cab vines to give the earth a rest until future replanting

Winemaking

February 12th we had a successful blending meeting for the 2024 red wines.  I am pleased to share that this vintage is tasting great already and will feature our first single varietal Malbec and Cab Franc plus a couple of new blends!

February 26th French cooperage Charlois hosted a Grand Tasting at the AVA Hotel to feature their extensive line of barrels to industry.  Liberty Cellars was honored to have our Cabernet Sauvignon selected to showcase their Pennsylvania oak.  Very educational afternoon - we came away with some new options for future reds and possibly for whites - thanks to them for hosting!

March 12 we bottled the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc (Independence Hall).  We look forward to sharing this wine in the April release and at the Pickup Party!
